2015 Dahon Speed D7

Speed is just what you'll get aboard Dahon's Speed D7 folding bike. The frame is a light and supple 4130 chromoly, so you get a smooth, forgiving ride. Down below, 20-inch aluminum rims are quick and nimble. The 7-speed Shimano drivetrain promises crisp, reliable shifting so you can tackle those steep inclines on your ride, and Dahon Ergo Comfort contact points will keep the glee of riding your bike going on longer rides. When you're done riding, every part of the Speed D7 tucks neatly away, even the pedals, until the road calls to you again.

Comments:

This bike is the best. Fits in a large suitcase--my wife and I took ours to Mazatlan and rode all around. Good for surfing--with a Carver rack attached to the seat post, you can easily carry a 10' board on reasonably level ground (Diamond Head Lighthouse would be a bit much). Add a luggage rack and basket, and it's the ideal shopping vehicle. I have to keep mine in an underground garage near the beach, with salt water infiltration, so the chain and brakes will rust out in about 4 years. But the frame etc. has not. I do replace the chain & brakes periodically, but that is not the bike's fault. I have ridden nothing else for many years. Better and much cheaper than Bike Friday, Montague, Brampton, etc.

      Comments:

This bike is perfectly utilitarian, and that's a compliment. It does EXACTLY what it needs to - rides well, lets you cruise along at 15mph, and fits on the Commuter Rail. Plus, it doesn't break the bank. An excellent balance of features to price. I love, love, love commuting on my Dahon speed. The only downsides are a rougher ride than slick fancypants bikes thanks to the smaller wheels, and the need to buy removable lights and accessories, because not every accessory lets the bike fold like it should.

I would highly recommend this bike for anyone looking for a convenient and portable ride for around town or on bike trails. This bike folds very small, and fits in very small storage spaces or right in the trunk for easy transport to riding places. It is also a very fun bike to ride.
